Things Are Getting Very Secretive in Brave New Britain
This time the issue is advanced medical directives and their interpretation by courts: New regulations permit these court rulings--which are often literally a matter of life and death--to be held in secret. This is terrible development. We have open courts in free societies for a reason. Secrecy permits corruption, discrimination, and heightens the potential for profound injustice. Indeed, secrecy permits the law not to be followed at all.
Living will disputes are not issues of national security where confidentiality is sometimes justified. The way to keep people complacent is to, quite literally, keep them in the dark.

So, if you want these procedings in the open, which I think is a good idea, why don't you want euthanasia out in the open and regulated? Prohibition does not work on euthanasia.

Probably because euthanasia is killing and killing is murder and murder is a crime. Something like that.

It's murder according to your primitive mind.
Not all killing is murder. Suicide is NOT self-murder, because murder requires malice. Voluntary euthanasia is an act of mercy.
Something like that, which is why doctors who help patients die rarely get convicted. The same applies to family members who help.
So, you agree that the hearings should be public, Winston Jen. Why not just leave it at that?
I am hereby exercising blogger's option of not permitting this thread to turn into the assisted suicide debate. Let's restrict conversation to the subject of the post.

Rich! Bravo!
Primitive = leaving the old or infirm by the side of the trail to die while the rest moves on to the next hunt.
Civilized = making sure the old and infirm are treated with the same respect as the able-bodied.
You should really have your own radio show. You never fail to make me laugh out loud.

Okay. I'll say no more.
I mentioned assisted suicide because it's related to the question of transparency.
But I'll respect your wishes and leave it at that.
